Bible Logic
I was brought up in a religious household. My mother is a staunch defender and worshipper of Jehovah and Jesus. My father is religiously ambivalent and tolerant. I studied the Bible as a child and into my adolescence.
I have been an atheist for many years.
But I don’t see faith as dangerous. I believe that faith tempered with reason and compassion is a good thing. If your beliefs motivate you to strive to be a better person then I have nothing to say.
It is only when religion is used to defend cruelty, arrogance, and ignorance that I believe it to be dangerous. For Jesus of the New Testament sends a message of love, tolerance and compassion to humanity. Does he not advocate peace and let those without sin throw the first stone? He is wise and unjudgemental though he is without sin.
I think that the people who push their beliefs onto others and judge them as immoral sinful people, are themselves in the wrong. God gave humanity free choice if you follow the Bible, if a person choses to act in a manner that is not illegal but offends your morals, while you can disagree in private, it is utterly wrong for you to condemn them.
You are not without fault. You have no right to act on God’s behalf. It is sheer arrogance to assume that we lowly creatures can understand the workings of the divine.
I do not believe that God, if he exists, would be pleased with the many religious persons that instigate hatred. If God is so all loving and compassionate, then I believe he would embrace all people regardless of their sexuality, choices and opinions. He would love and accept all regardless because, if the religious are right, he made us with all our imperfections.
